Oil painting Restoration
At bloomfieldart we offer a number of different services for the conservation of oil paintings on both canvas support and panel.

  • Cleaning
The removing of yellowing varnish and dirt from an oil painting, This work requires the greatest care and skill if the painting is not to be overcleaned. We are able to repair paintings that have been overcleaned by a past restorer or over zealous owner.
  • Structural damage /Canvas Re-lining
This involves the conservation and restoration of the painting's supporting material. i.e. the canvas, panel, board etc. In some cases this can have deteriorated due to damp or dry environments, or have impact damage like a tear or hole. We can repair a canvas that has become too weak to hold the paint, or has been torn. A new supporting piece of canvas is attached and strengthens the paint surface.. A split panel can be repaired, or a warped panel straightened with a cradle. Paint that has become loose and flaking can be consolidated or reattached.

Oil painting in Need of retouching missing paint
  • Retouching
We follow the ethical restoration standards of minimal intervention and reversibility. We only retouch the painting where paint is missing or badly worn. Retouching is time consuming and painstaking work.Only a small amount of the painting is worked and the colours and original brushstrokes have to be perfectly matched.
Anything that we apply to the painting can be safely removed by future restorers if required.

  • Terms
We will always discuss with you the best course of action for the painting, and can provide written quotations on request for insurance work.

We also offer a collection delivery service for more information click here
